Goal

This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. It is a small site, built from plain pages, and it should work with a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom, a phone, and with JavaScript turned off.

What has been done

  • Text and controls are designed to meet the required colour contrast, and the colours are checked by automated scripts.
  • Every control can be reached and used with the keyboard, with a visible focus outline and a skip link.
  • Images that carry meaning have text descriptions. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • The site has short visual effects (brief glitch bursts, a slow scanning grid and a large background figure). An Effects switch in the page header turns them all off, they start switched off for visitors whose device asks for reduced motion, and the page is completely still with JavaScript off. Nothing flashes: the bursts last under half a second, at most once every six seconds, and move and tint images without changing brightness.
  • Pages reflow down to a 320 pixel wide screen without sideways scrolling.
  • No sound plays until you press play on the trailer.

How it is tested

The site is checked with an automated accessibility tester, keyboard tests, and layout tests at phone, tablet and desktop sizes before it is published. It has not yet had an independent accessibility audit.

Known gaps

  • Some gameplay images show the game's own small on-screen text. The text description of each image says what it shows, but it does not repeat every word.
  • The game itself is in development and its accessibility options are not described here yet.
